MSM successfully procured the contract to construct a newbuild Materials Testing Facility for the Department for Infrastructure (NI) under a NEC3  Option A two-stage (Develop & Build) contract, within their live operational site in Craigavon. 

Our Integrated Supply Team consultants progressed the Integrated Consultants’ RIBA stage 3 design to RIBA stage 4 construction design.

The 2-storey building (GIFA 720m2) provides ground floor laboratories for concrete, bitumen & aggregates testing and storerooms. First floor level provides office        accommodation for 17no. staff, meeting rooms, staff welfare facilities & plantrooms. The building was delivered to a BREEAM Excellent standard.

Major elements of the construction works involved:

· Vibro stone piling

· RC pad & strip foundations; RC ground floor slab incl. radon protection

· Structural steel frame with block infill walling; engineering brick to external skin and block internal walls with plaster finish

· RC metaldeck at first floor

· Insulated roof cladding & part-wall cladding

· Aluminium windows & doors

· Complete internal fit-out incorporating specialist M&E services

External works included site preparation; foul & storm drainage; mains utilities; kerbing; paving; surfacing; construction of outbuildings & external stores
