Considerate Constructors Scheme update on RPSI Whitehead

Our site at the Railway Preservation Society of Ireland’s Whitehead Railway Centre is registered with the Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS). One of the five headings under the CCS Code of Considerate Practice is to ‘Protect the Environment’ and constructors are required to protect and enhance the environment by:
– Identifying, managing and promoting environmental issues
– Seeking sustainable solutions, and minimising waste, the carbon footprint and resources
– Minimising the impact of vibration, and air, light and noise pollution
– Protecting the ecology, the landscape, wildlife, vegetation and water courses

As part of our ongoing corporate commitment to protect the environment under the CCS Code of Practice, our site team is measuring our site waste and recycling performance, as well as monitoring fuel, water and electricity usage on site.

If you would like to discuss any project-related environmental or wider corporate responsibility issues with our company, please contact our SHEQ department by e-mail to sheq@msmcontracts.co.uk

Fast-track hotel project successfully delivered by MSM

MSM Contracts recently completed a fast-track construction project at The Belmont Hotel in Banbridge, Co Down. The construction works were carried out within a 6-week timeframe with The Belmont Hotel remaining open to guests at all times and involved alterations/extension works to construct a new night club entrance lobby and outdoor smoking area.

The project was handed over ahead of the XS Night Club & Entertainment Complex opening night on 05th December 2015 and enabled The Belmont Hotel to fully host their Christmas 2015 entertainment programme.

Site clearance and minor demolition works to an existing outdoor area and rear entry to the night club, were carried out during the enabling works phase. The newly formed night club entrance lobby is constructed with substructure blockwork on traditional pad & strip foundations, a structural steel frame with masonry infill walling and precast floor slabs. The building envelope combines roof cladding, PPC aluminium glazing and a smooth render finish. The night club entrance lobby was fully fitted-out by specialist contractors including M&E subcontractors, with bespoke finishes including custom-made floor coverings and a padded upholstery finish to the entrance doors and lobby desk.

External works involved laying decorative paving to the night club entrance and outdoor smoking area, perimeter fencing, landscaping and works associated with connections to the existing drainage system.

The design team on the project were Rainey & Best (project manager/QS); HD Design (architects) and BCD Partnership (structural & civil engineers).
